Tuckerton Borough is nestled between the Pine lands Preserve and the Bay, in Ocean County, NJ. Little Egg Harbor Township surrounds Tukerton Borough.

The Borough covers 3.8 square miles, 3.7 of which is land. The east side of Tuckerton is flanked by the expansive Back Bay. Southeast of Tukerton is the Little Egg Inlet which provides Boating access to the Atlantic Ocean.

The Borough is known for the Tuckerton Seaport & Baymen’s Museum. It is an open air maritime heritage museum has several historic buildings along a boardwalk on the Tuckerton Creek. The area heritage is kept alive by storytelling, exhibits, demonstrations, classes, and special events that occur at the museum.

The Borough is also home to the Barnegat Bay Decoy & Baymen’s Museum located at Tip Seaman Park.

Tuckerton NJ History

The Tukerton area was first settled in 1698. Tuckerton Borough is named after its founder, Ebenezer Tucker. (1758-1845). Tucker was a shipbuilder , postmaster, judge and congressman.

The town was part of Burlington County until 1891 when it joined with Ocean County.  In 1901 portions of Little Egg Harbor Township were taken to form Tuckerten Borough. Little Egg Harbor Township surrounds Tukerton Borough.
