Harvey Cedars NJ History

Portions of Union Township (now called Barnegat Township) were detached to form Harvey Cedars in 1894.

The Harvey Cedars name was derived from a 1751 deed, that defined the area as “a hammock and clump of cedars called Harvest Quarters” and the cedar trees that grew in the area.

At one time the area from 71st Street to 87th Street was called High Point, named after Issac Lee who built the first home in the area. In the 1930’s High Point was made part of Harvey Cedars, NJ.
