Seaside Heights Boardwalk

The Seaside Heights Boardwalk is  one of the southern most commercial boardwalks located in Ocean County, NJ. It is sometimes merely called Seaside Boardwalk and is one of the most famous boardwalks in the world.

This action packed boardwalk features a wide wooden promenade  that  extends approximately one mile and offers unparalleled views of the majestic Atlantic Ocean and all the beachfront activity.

The northern terminus of the Seaside Heights Boradwalk is at Hiering Avenue bordered by the Ortley Beach section of Toms River Township. The southern terminus of the Seaside Heights Boardwalk is at Porter Avenue where it continues far into Seaside Park as a strolling Boardwalk.


The Seaside Heights boardwalk is bookended by two 300-foot long piers  extending approximately 300 feet east, above the Atlantic Ocean.

The Northern piers is the world-famous Casino Pier, with a merry-go-round, log flume and the Jet Star roller coaster.

The Southern pier  is the Funtown Amusement Pier home to the Tower of Fear, Seaside’s tallest ferris wheel and a go-kart track. A portion of the Funtown Pier is located in Seaside Park, NJ.


The Seaside Heights Boardwalk is lined with amusements, rides, games of chance, arcades, miniature golf courses, restaurants, night clubs, snack bars, boutique shops, gourmet candy shops, an aquarium,  water park, antiques and more. The Boardwalk is full of game stands, rides, pizzerias, bars and arcades.

For the shopaholic, there are plenty of trendy boutiques on the boardwalk, featuring everything from beach wear to sunglasses to jewelry.


The Seaside Heights Nightlife is world-famous and has been well documented by television and movies. Various Night Club are the main attractions for the party people on the boardwlk and a the adjacent Boulevard.


Boardwalks invented in New Jersey in the  late 1800’s. The original boardwalks were wooden planks laid on the  sand to form a boarded walkways. These boarded walkways were designed to reduce the amount of sand that pedestrians would track into hotel lobbies and railroad parlor Cars.  The walkways were removed at the end of each bathing season.

Later in the  1800’s permanent Boardwalks started to pop up throughout Ocean County, NJ. Point Pleasant Beach was the  first boardwalk built on pilings in Ocean County, NJ in the 1890s. Seaside Park, Bay Head, Lavallette and Beach Haven also constructed permanent boardwalks.As Boardwalks became permanent structures they were maintained all year-long.

In the 1870’s Atlantic City, NJ was  the first boardwalk to feature amusements.  Later amusement and fishing piers were added. Early on , Point Pleasant Beach and Seaside Heights began to commercialize their boardwalks.
